Commingled recycling FAQs

Commingled waste (also known as mixed recyclables) refers to recyclable materials that can be placed together in one bin. This includes glass bottles, plastic containers, aluminium cans, steel tins, and cardboard or paper products. These items are later separated and processed at a recycling facility.

Once collected, commingled waste is taken to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF), where it’s sorted into separate material types. These are then sent to recycling plants to be processed and reused in manufacturing new products.

Commingled recycling makes it easier to recycle more materials efficiently, reducing landfill waste and conserving natural resources. It’s a simple, convenient way for businesses and households to support sustainability.
